Christmas Festivities

Beginning of festivities...

So, I decided to begin the season by sewing Laela a christmas dress!
I used the same pattern for this dress as I did for the sunshine and polka dot dress, I'm definitely perfecting it.

I love the christmas season, it's amazing. Christmas baking, decorating the tree, putting lights on the house and of course the christmas candles!

Sunshine & Polka dots

Sunshine and Polka dots

I'm loving learning to sew.
I finished my second sewing project tonight and I'm super excited to try it on my little girl! She will look adorable in it. It's for my brothers [second] wedding, on a lake in the hinterlands of the Sunshine Coast.

I learnt so much about sewing while making this dress, my friends mum walked me through some of the basic ins and outs of sewing. Thankfully, a head start with sewing.

Learn a little, sew a little.

The art of sewing.

I decided to take action and teach myself the skill of sewing. Although I know nothing about it, I went out, I bought myself a machine, a sewing basket, material, needles, the whole lot! I set it up and then I froze. Legit froze. I knew the basics from school, so that pretty much meant I knew how to turn the machine on.  What to do next? GOOGLE. That's right, I googled my way through tutorials, the do's and don'ts of sewing. After many online tutorials and playing around with my machine. I eventually began learning the fine art of sewing, if it can even be called a fine art.

Well, a few days after fiddling with my machine. I decided I would go to spotlight and buy a pattern to make my little girl a dress. So off I went and then I bought a dress pattern. Now who knew buy the machine was in fact the CHEAPEST and EASIEST part of sewing? Not me.

After about 2 weeks of sewing a bit here and there, I finally finished L's dress. Well, it was about THREE sizes too big and it's definitely not the most perfect garment I've seen but a dress none the less.

So there it is, my first sewing project complete. I think I did pretty good for a first timer however I LEARNT so much about sewing, I learnt that while you can in fact get taught it, even when you google or have someone sit down and tell you what to do, you are still going to make mistakes and you are still going to learn better/easier/quicker ways to do it. It's a process but I'll be perfecting it.
